Thompson, E.P. ~ The Making Of The English Working Class
Victor Gollancz, London : 1963
The First UK printing published by Victor Gollancz, London in 1963. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just some light pushing and fading at the extreme spine tips. Light toning to the text-block. A neat penned gift inscription to the front blank end-paper. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition with some light edge wear and some small closed tear which have some tape reinforcement to the verso. Light toning to the spine and folds with a small chip to the upper spine. The wrapper remains very attractive in the removable Brodart archival cover. Loosely inserted are some contemporary newspaper reviews for this title. Thompson's classic title in which he 'felt that he had much to learn from the life experiences of his working-class students. The whole tone of his most celebrated work, 'The Making of the English Working Class' (1963), which made his reputation, testifies to this. It was fittingly dedicated to one of these students, and for all its international success it is impossible not to sense that the audience he felt himself to be addressing was a wider one than that of the academy' (ODNB). A very nice example.
