First UK editions thus, of Tolkien's celebrated and revered fantasy trilogy, which has become something of a cult classic, and one of the best-known works of the 20th century. Originally published the previous year as a one-volume omnibus, this edition is the first to feature Lee's captivating illustrations in the same three-volume format as the epic was originally published. Sadly lacking the publisher's slipcase. The set is here enhanced with the wonderfully enigmatic illustrations by Alan Lee, who portrays numerous sweeping scenes from the text, as well as characters such as Gollum, Gandalf and the elves, epic battles, trolls, dwarfs, orcs and much more. Lee went on to illustrate many other Tolkien works, including a 1999 edition of The Hobbit, the 2007 edition of The Children of Húrin, the 2017 edition of Beren and Lúthien, the 2018 edition of The Fall of Gondolin, and the 2022 edition of The Fall of Númenor. He was also employed as the concept artist on Peter Jackson's 2001–2003 The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. A wonderful gift set. Due to the weight of these three books, there will be extra international shipping costs to pay for - please make contact for further information regarding this .
