Townend, Jack ~ A Railway ABC : First Issue
Faber and Faber : 1942
The First UK printing published by Faber and Faber in 1942. The BOOK is in Very Good condition. Light age related markings to the covers. The boards have become detached but there is no loss with the spine still present and adhering firmly to the book. Only some very slight age related markings internally. Free from inscriptions and erasures. Protected in a loose archival Mylar covering. The book was published lithographically at the Baynard Press in London, during a period of ink and paper rationing. The resultant illustrations are very striking. Jack Townend studied at the Slade School of Art under the direction of Randolph Schwabe. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1946. Jack Townend has recently had the recognition he deserves with the The 'V and A' museum recently reprinting many of his titles. A very scarce wartime production title. Collectible.
