Underwood, Leon ~ Art For Heaven’s Sake

The Sole UK printing published by Faber and Faber in 1934. Wraps. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition with just a hint of spotting to the text-block, end papers and a few page edges. The Wrapper is complete and is in near Fine condition with just some light age related markings and light creasing to the rear flap. An 18 page pamphlet booklet on 'Notes on the philosophy of art today' with three engravings (one full page) by the author. Underwood was a noted British sculptor, painter, draughtsman and engraver as well as a writer and illustrator, scholar, teacher, philosopher and stained glass and furniture craftsman. He attended the Slade School of Art and founded the magazine 'The Island' in 1931. His work was influenced by African and Cycladic designs. Very scarce.
