Watson, James D ~ Genes, Girls and Gamow : Signed by The Nobel Laureate Author
Oxford University Press, UK : 2001
The First UK printing published by Oxford University Press, UK in 2001. The BOOK is in near Fine co edition with just a hint of pushing at the spine tips. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition with just some fading of the green colouring of the spine. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been signed (without dedication) by the Nobel Laureate author/scientist to the title page. The ticket for the signing event accompanies this title as provenance. In 1953 Watson and Crick discovered the double helical structure of DNA and Watson's personal account of the discovery, 'The Double Helix', was published in 1968. 'Genes, Girls and Gamow' is also autobiographical, covering the period from when 'The Double Helix' ends, in 1953, to a few years later, and ending with a Postscript bringing the story up to date. The book is enlivened with copies of handwritten letters from the larger than life character of George Gamow, who had made significant contributions to physics but became intrigued by genes, DNA and the elusive genetic code. Signed titles by the Nobel Laureate James Watson are very thin on the ground.
