The late Rolling Stones' drummer's sincere tribute : "Compiled by one Charlie to a late and great Charlie"
Watts, Charlie ~ Ode to a highflying Bird
Beat Publications Ltd, London : 1965 : First UK printing
The solution UK printing published by Beat Publications Ltd, London in 1965. This is the late Rolling Stones' drummer's lightly humorous but entirely sincere tribute, in the style of a children's book, to his great hero Charlie Parker, "who made me what I am". Published on the tenth anniversary of Bird's death, it was originally conceived as a class project while Watts was a design student. With typical humility he describes the book as "compiled by one Charlie to a late and great Charlie". With an image of Watts and printed signature to the back board. The work was republished in 1991; This is the very rare original version from Beat Publications. The Book is in Very Good++ or better condition. Small octavo. Original white boards, titles to covers in black, portrait of the author to rear cover, price label of 'Seven Shillings' tipped to the front free endpaper as issued. Some light pushing and a little rubbing to the corners. Some light age related markings to the covers. No wrapper as issued. Illustrations in colour throughout by the author. An increasingly elusive title.
