Bound in full maroon morocco with gilt lettering to spine. Top edge gilt. Housed in the publisher's original maroon cloth slipcase. A handsome production with 33 colour illustrations and 238 B/W illustrations. John Piper (1903-1982) is noted for his paintings, prints, opera and theatre sets, and stained-glass windows. There was also a standard trade edition issued simultaneously. Scarce.
